AmeriCorps VISTA Summer of Service

Thirty-seven million Americans live in poverty. Through AmeriCorps VISTA, you can make a tangible difference. And, you'll find the fulfillment that comes from using your knowledge and skills to help those in disadvantaged circumstances turn their dreams into reality.

VISTA members will commit to serve for 10 weeks starting June 1, 2011 through August 9, 2011. Summer of Service members will be serving with local non-profit organizations to expand or create programs in the area of education.

By commiting to 10 weeks VISTA members have the opportunity to gain new skills, meet new people and enjoy positive experiences by helping others in our community. VISTA members will also receive a modest living stipened ($977 per month, $449.68 paid every two weeks)while serving and upon successful completion of service can qualify for an educational award of $1,174.60.

Interested volunteers must be able to commit to the entire 10 weeks and can not hold outside employment during that time. This opportunity is perfect for recent high school graduates, college students, retirees and other individuals looking for ways to help our community while gaining valuable skills.

Now Recruiting:
The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate would serve as an Art Enrichment Assistant responsible for supporting the Dance Program Director in the implementation of dance programs, cooridnation of class schedules & liaison between Opportunity Village, parents and Clark County schools to help expand dance and movement classes & performances for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate will support the Las Vegas Area Council of Boy Scouts of America by educating the Hispanic community of the benefits of the Scouting program while maintaining their traditions, customs and culture. For more details about this position click HERE.
